Following a competition held during the winter of 2016, the Desjardins Chair in Nursing Care for Older People and their Families awarded two scholarships of $10,000 each.
These scholarships were made possible thank to the generosity of donors who support the mission of the Chair. The mission is to develop knowledge to improve the well-being and quality of life of older people and their families and support the training of future generations in nursing.
Marie-Hélène Lalonde and Geneviève Leblanc were the winners. They are both students of the Master Program at the Faculty of Nursing of the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Anne Bourbonnais, Chairholder.
The winner of the Familles Gagnon-Thibaudeau Scholarship was Ms. Lalonde. Her master’s thesis will focus on exploring perceptions regarding engaging in a care partnership to prevent post-surgery delirium of older people.
The Guy Sauvageau Senior Scholarship went to Ms. Leblanc. Her master’s thesis aims to understand better the meanings of caring for older people for nurses working in an emergency room.
The scholarships were awarded during a cocktail held on April 13. Many people were present: the winners, their families, donors, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Francine Ducharme, the Chairholder Anne Bourbonnais, and members of the management and scientific committees of the Chair. This festive event was a privileged moment for the winners to meet the donors.
We thank our donors and congratulate Ms. Leblanc and Ms. Lalonde. We wish them much success in their studies!
