The Netherlands has an innovative approach to care and services for older people with a network of over 2,350 non-profit organizations (NPOs). Many of them are entrusted with the entire continuum of care and services needed by older people (housing for independent older adults, long-term care beds and home care). Each of these organizations has strong ties to their communities and adapts its services to local realities. This community-based approach helps integrate older adults into society and help prevent social isolation.
