Elisabeth Laughrea, a former student of the Research Chair in Nursing Care for Older People and their Families is currently the coordinator of the Specialized Approach to Senior Care (AAPA) at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). The interventions of Ms. Laughrea and her team regarding this approach gave excellent results! The delirium screening rate among hospitalized people aged 75 and over has increased significantly. As part of her master’s project, Ms. Laughrea developed a training session on the prevention of delirium which allowed her to develop, among others, some expertise on this health problem.
In an article published in the May 2019 edition of the “JGH News”, the magazine of the Jewish General Hospital, Ms. Laughrea talks about delirium: how to recognize it, its causes, its effects and the interventions that can be used to prevent it. http://jghnews.ciussswestcentral.ca/screening-rate-for-delirium-surges-at-jgh/
Congratulations to Ms. Laughrea and her team for their commitment toward the well-being of older people!
